About Me

I am Jan-pieter Rijstenbil. I grew up in a household without TVs or smartphones, a childhood that forced me to find —or create— my own entertainment. By age 12, I was often found immersed in books or figuring out Bach praeludiums on the church organ; by 15, I was salvaging materials to build styrofoam hovercrafts or a (dangerously wired) 230V bitterbal micro-fryer.

I learned early on that I prefer experimentation over manuals. While I often 'reinvented the wheel,' those projects taught me the fundamentals of independent problem-solving and the nuanced reality of how things work.

After a decade of blending formal study with hands-on side projects, I've evolved from a solo tinkerer into a collaborative builder. Today, I'm channeling that lifelong obsession with how physical systems move and think into my company: Unseq, where we build an important product at the intersection of robotics and physical AI.
